Creating The Curdle Hill Beats

LoFi Beats Worthy of The Curdle Hill Cacophony

What does a small, deserted village situated just outside of 1800’s steampunk London-esque city, populated with wizards and witches sound like? Well…

That was the brief we had in hand when we knew we wanted to create a soundtrack – and eventually a LoFi beats blend for gaming, game-prep, and even tidying, studying, working, potion-making.

IRL, our houses are hustling bustles of kids, food, love and laughter – music has always been a part of our lives, so we couldn’t imagine launching a project without the full immersive experience.

That’s where Irene Chan and Underwood Beats come in.

Our first step was to brief Irene Chan, orchestral composer, on creating the sound for our world; we had characters, realms, and feelings on how things should sound, but needed help on translating that to an audible experience.

It had to be a journey through our world, with influences of electronica throughout.

Irene is a freelance music composer, whose experience is predominantly within creating orchestral soundtracks to video games, animations and streamer content. As a classically trained Violinist and Pianist, Irene has the conceptual skills necessary to score, arrange and orchestrate music for visual media - plus, she notes on her website that she is inspired by the music of Koji Kondo and Junichi Masuda from the series of Super Mario and Pokémon - so when it came time to turn Achroma into a sound, we knew she was the right choice. You can check out some of her work here.

Once Irene had created our six original tracks – our soundtrack – we had Underwood Beats turn them into our ChillHop LoFi looping in-world medley. Underwood Beats are a collective of producers, together working on various beats for download, and stream online.

Now, the first instalment of The Curdle Hill Beats is available for you to stream on YouTube. We’d suggest pressing play, unpacking your game, getting acquainted with your cards, just before challenging a friend (or foe) to a game.
